All Around Sound and Music

6th Symposium “AllAroundAudio“ at St. Pölten UAS

All Around Sound and Music

The AllAroundAudio Symposium of the St. Pölten UAS was once more dedicated to current trends and developments in the context of sound and music.

Presentations by experts from various relevant disciplines were followed by a panel discussion on the topic of “Die Zukunft des Radios” (the future of the radio). Representatives of the radio stations Ö1, FM4, and Kronehit Radio as well as the Verband Freier Rundfunk Österreich (Association of Austrian Community Broadcasters) talked about the importance of the radio in a digitalised world.

Interfaces between the Disciplines

In its sixth edition, the AllAroundAudio Symposium once more addressed the latest trends and developments in connection with sound and music. The format organised by the Department of Media & Digital Technologies is not only aimed at industry experts and creative media minds but strives to encourage researchers and designers from other fields to discover new interfaces between the disciplines and interesting possibilities for future collaboration.

The symposium was held at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences on 18 June 2021 in the form of a hybrid teaching event with 25 contributors and online via YouTube livestream.

“Our symposium is an important platform for exchange in the industry and serves to intensify the interdisciplinary collaboration with other fields of research”, emphasises Michal Iber, organiser of the symposium and lecturer for Audio Design at the St. Pölten UAS.

“AllAroundAudio has always been the starting point of exciting collaboration – an important factor in a fast-moving industry sector – and has given our students an insight into the multi-faceted career opportunities of media technology.”

Research and Business

Key points were speeches on acoustic perception held by researchers of the Acoustics Research Institute located at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, and a discussion on the topic of “Zukunft des Radios” with Monika Kalcsics (Ö1), Rüdiger Landgraf (Kronehit), Helga Schwarzwald (Verband Freier Rundfunk Österreich) and Eva Umbauer (fm4). The discussion was hosted by composer and Member of the Executive Board of the St. Pölten UAS Hannes Raffaseder.

Students of the bachelor degree programmes Media Technology and Media Management were involved in the event as well: they were responsible for technical support and got the audience into the mood for the panel discussion by holding presentations on the state of media pluralism in Europe.

The automotive industry and the creative sector were represented through the companies Lewitt Audio, Mikme, Klangkulisse Graz, Scopeaudio, and Atmoky.
