The research programme CARMA will build up and sustainably position a centre for applied research on media-supported health care, with a focus on exercise and activity.

The project is making an important contribution to addressing the challenges that the European health sector will soon have to face, for example as a result of changing population structures. Enabling independence and activity into an advanced age will require not only a range of support systems but also new concepts in prevention, therapy and rehabilitation that can be applied to people from an early age and the efficiency and quality of which may be optimized by the application of digital technologies. CARMA is thus working on innovative scenarios and prototypic developments that can be demonstrated to potential users. Current media technologies should be applied in a userand patient-friendly way and the work should contribute to a sustainable improvement in the extended health-care system. Examples include Music Enhanced Training (MET) and
(Tele-) Rehabilitation with Body Area Networks (REBORN).
