ContractVis-a visual assistant for the small print

#Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies #Media Computing #National third-party funding

The ContractVis application translates the wording of contracts into clear visual results and helps to protect user rights.

Not noticing the small print

The internet has radically changed our everydaylife in many ways. Due to free deals and offers from social media, streaming services or online shops we often enter binding contracts without considering the general terms and conditions (GTC). Mobile devices further complicate the legibility of terms and conditions – the so-called “small print” is carelessly accepted and opens the door for possible intrusions and violations of consumer rights.

It's all about the details

Contract Vis supports the empowered consumer in making decisions regarding contracts online. Via text mining and information visualization, ContractVis processes the wording of a contract and provides users with a visual overview, available also on mobile devices. Moreover, it is possible to focus on detailled information regarding a specific topic, e.g. rescission from the contract.

Another feature allows for a direct comparison of two contracts and therefore enables you to examine different versions after modifications of a contract.

Results and prospects

ContractVis promotes an aware and critical approach to online contracts. All software resulting from the project will be made available as Open Source Software. The project emphasizes on user-centered design and a customized solution for German contracts.
