The EFAD (European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians) has more than 35,000 members and is divided into ten European Specialist Dietetic Networks (ESDN).

Each of these ESDNs is made up of Dietetics experts from the respective specialist areas. The Executive Committee of the EFAD examines, assesses and decides on the appointment of members and leaders based on a catalogue of defined criteria.

Daniela Wewerka-Kreimel Appointed Lead

After being a member of the European network of experts since 2014, Daniela Wewerka-Kreimel has now been named Lead of the ESDN Diabetes.

The mission of this network of experts is to strengthen the role of dietitians in the field of diabetes across Europe and to promote the further development of the profession. This is achieved, among other things, through an exchange of views with political decision-makers at the local, national, and European levels as well as collaboration in research programmes in the field of diabetes care.

For the further development of Evidence-Based Practice, the network is in contact with the EFAD’s other specialist committees. In 2021, for example, a half-day event featuring speeches and discussions on the topic of diabetes was organised for the European annual conference and the project DiabPeerS was presented on this occasion.

Most recently, ESDN Diabetes worked on a project that compares European evidence-based guidelines for nutrition management in people affected by diabetes. The results will be published in the journal Kompass Nutrition & Dietetics soon.
