Junior Researcher Computer Vision & Machine Learning in a Cultural Context f/m/d (40 h) "english version"

The position is vacant in the Creative\Media/Technologies Institute.

What you will be working on

  • You conduct research within the framework of innovative applied and basic research projects on Computer Vision, Machine Learning (ML) / Deep Learning in interdisciplinary problem settings of film studies and art history.
  • You develop methods for the automatic analysis, retrieval, and classification of images and videos as well as interactive visual interfaces for the ML-supported searching, browsing, and analysis of large media databases.
  • You support the writing of scientific publications, presentations, and scientific research project proposals.
  • You have ambitions to pursue a dissertation/PhD and support teaching.

What we expect from you

  • University degree (Master level) in Computer Science (or comparable technical degree) or in Digital Humanities
  • Comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience in Machine Learning with a special focus on at least one of the following areas:
    • Computer Vision & Visual Retrieval (Python, OpenCV; Deep Learning libraries such as TensorFlow/PyTorch)
    • Human-Centred AI & Visual Analytics (HTML, CSS, JavaScript; libraries such as D3.js/FLASK/VueJS)
  • Excellent command of English, willingness to learn/improve your German language skills (for non-natives)
  • Curiosity, independent working style, interest in questions from the Digital Humanities
