Designing the Future of Technology

Maker Events at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences

Future Tech Bootcamp

The St. Pölten UAS is hosting the first “Future Tech Bootcamp” this week, an experimental format which allows creative “makers” and industry representatives to develop ideas and projects relating to the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and Blockchain. In this endeavour, they are supported by specialists of the respective fields as well as innovative technologies made available especially for this event.

The evening event “Future Tech Forum” at the St. Pölten UAS on 25 June served as a platform to present the format, speakers and topics of the bootcamp to the public. The UAS also presented the Haus der Digitalisierung (House of Digitalisation) of Lower Austria and the UAS startup programme Creative Pre-Incubator. The Creative Media Summer School is taking place at the St. Pölten UAS this week as well.

New Platforms and Thinking Outside the Box

“The exchange between established industrial companies and founders thinking outside the box frequently serves as the initial spark for groundbreaking innovations – which is why we are happy that Industry Meets Makers is hosting this four-day bootcamp at the St. Pölten UAS for the first time. We are excited for new approaches to solve problems pertaining to digitalisation, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things”, explains Thomas Salzer, President of the Federation of Austrian Industry in Lower Austria.

“Thanks to the direct match of the industry on the one hand and talents with a high degree of interest in future technologies and a comprehensive wealth of experience as well as future-oriented technology infrastructure on the other, our new Future Tech Bootcamp creates the best possible framework conditions for fast and practice-oriented co-creation prototyping processes. Such open innovation formats allow the industry to strengthen its own innovative power. Furthermore, technologies such as AI, IoT and Blockchain open up a multitude of new business and optimisation potentials which should be evaluated and exploited as soon as possible”, says bootcamp organiser Sandra Stromberger.

“Knowledge transfers between research and companies, startup programmes and maker events are an important initiative in order to develop and strengthen creative powers in building something together. The St. Pölten UAS is strongly committed to this end and it makes me very happy that our university serves as a venue and partner of the first Future Tech Bootcamp”, says UAS Authorised Signatory Hannes Raffaseder.

Three Digital Innovation Hubs are currently being created in Austria as well. The St. Pölten UAS is prominently involved in two of them and works on the creation of a nationwide platform for digital makers in collaboration with numerous partners of the bootcamp.

Creative Media Summer School

This week, in parallel with the bootcamp, the UAS is hosting the Creative Media Summer School 2019 for students of the Department of Media and Digital Technologies as well. The Summer School is dedicated to artistic practice, creative processes and theoretical reflections in animation. International speakers hold lectures and workshops. Within the framework of one such workshop, the students can also participate in the Future Tech Bootcamp.

The annual Creative Media Summer School offers the students of the St. Pölten UAS high-quality further education on current subjects in the field of media technology and media industry.

Future Tech Bootcamp

The Future Tech Bootcamp is organised and made possible by Industry meets Makers and the St. Pölten UAS in collaboration with the St. Pölten-based startup initiative SMARTUP, the Federation of Austrian Industry in Lower Austria, and further partners.
