St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences and Sungkyunkwan University cooperate in the field of IT-security

St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences recently concluded a joint-study cooperation with the South Korean Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), which has locations in Seoul and Suwon. This cooperation carries forward the existing content-related collaboration between the Department of Computer Science and Security at St. Pölten UAS and the SKKU Security Lab and will facilitate student exchange in the future. In February, the first IT-security student from St. Pölten UAS will spend a semester in South Korea.

St. Pölten UAS and Sungkyunkwan University have already had some points of contact in the past. This contact resulted from the fact that the two universities together with the American Pennsylvania State University organise the annual International Conference on Security and Assurances (ICSSA), which accompanied by a summer school for students and teachers is held alternately in Seoul, Pennsylvania and St. Pölten.

The recently concluded cooperation extends the collaboration to the area of student mobility. In the future, students from the Department of Computer Science and Security at St. Pölten UAS and students from the Department of Computer Science at Sungkyunkwan University will have the opportunity to study for one semester at the respective partner university. The first step will be taken by a student in the Bachelor programme IT Security at St. Pölten UAS who will spend the summer semester of 2018 as a pioneer in South Korea.

"Sungkyunkwan University is one of the most prestigious universities in Asia and offers students top study conditions and a high level of expertise in the areas of usability and security. It also works closely with Korean companies such as Samsung. As a result, our students can benefit greatly from a semester in South Korea", explained Simon Tjoa, Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Security and international coordinator.

In the future, cooperation will be further expanded, perhaps in the area of teacher exchange or research.
