Legally secure through Cyberspace

Research project of St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences on digital rights clarification

View of St. Pölten UAS

The DALICC - Data Licenses Clearance Center project, coordinated by St. Pölten UAS, develops software that supports the reuse of data from the Internet. Legal conflicts concerning licenses are automatically recognized and the expenditure of time on rights clarification is considerably reduced.

Automatic license analysis

Modern IT-applications increasingly receive data from a variety of sources, including freely accessible data from the Internet. This results in questions about the legal use of the data according to existing laws and legal regulations. "Particularly in the reuse and combination of data, dependable rights clarification plays an important role. However, the establishment of legal certainty is complex, time-consuming and error-prone", explained Tassilo Pellegrini, Lecturer in the Department of Media and Economics at St. Pölten UAS and Head of the DALICC project.

The solution developed in the project supports legal experts, innovation managers and application developers in the legally certain reuse and combination of data. "The DALICC-Service allows automatic and thus time-saving identification of actual and potential compatibility conflicts between different licenses, therefore contributing to a significant improvement and cost reduction in rights clarification. The otherwise costly clarification of rights will thereby be de facto affordable for everyone", said Pellegrini.

In addition to St. Pölten UAS, partners in the project are: the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Innsbruck, "Hohne, In Maur & Partner Rechtsanwälte OG" and Semantic Web Company GmbH.
