Information and communications technology is playing an increasingly important role in healthcare.  St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences has in recent years built up innovative, interdisciplinary research at the interface of health, social issues and digitalization and is now combining its expertise and energy in the new "St. Pölten Center for Digital Health Innovation".

At the interface of health, social issues, digitalization and IT-security
In order to continue and strengthen the activities of St. Pölten UAS in Digital Health and Care, the UAS has now established the "St. Pölten Center for Digital Health Innovation". It is intended to provide useful assistance systems for both experts and patients and if required, to build on existing systems such as hospitals. The center seeks to bundle, develop and internationalize existing work and combine the expertise at St. Pölten UAS in the fields of health, social issues, digitalization and IT-security.

"Researchers at St. Pölten UAS have developed, among other things, intelligent shoe soles that make improper walking stresses audible. The research supports rehabilitation, improves the analysis and visualization of health data which assists therapists in their diagnosis. They are also inventing new technological solutions that make it possible for older people to live an active and independent life", said Jürgen Pripfl, Head of the Department of Health Sciences and the Institute of Health Sciences at St. Pölten UAS and Coordinator of the Center.

Focus: prototypes, analyses, evaluation

The Center focuses on three areas: in "Design & Prototype" it develops information and communications technology for the health and social sector, "Collect & Analyze" is dedicated to data analysis, and in "Assess & Evaluate" researchers experiment with user-friendliness and effectiveness and assess the technological impact on healthcare.

Interdisciplinary research

At the Center, four institutes at St. Pölten UAS are currently conducting interdisciplinary research on joint projects. In addition to the Department of Health Sciences and the Digital Health Care study programme, the Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies (IC\M/T) provides expertise in data analysis and visualization. The Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research explores the social acceptance of innovations and the use of new technology in the field of social care, for example, in care for the elderly. The Institute for IT Security Research is dedicated to questions of IT-security above all in the secure handling of personal data.
