At the end of August, Gabriela Fernandes retired from her position as Executive Director which she held with Gernot Kohl for over 12 years. As of September, Gernot Kohl will be heading the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences together with Hannes Raffaseder and Johann Haag, who have been working in the field of higher education management at the St. Pölten UAS for many years.
Team of the New Executive Board
Gernot Kohl, who has been an Executive Director of the St. Pölten UAS since 2004, assumes the chairmanship and overall responsibility as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The new Board is further comprised of Hannes Raffaseder, who will be responsible for the areas Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer as Chief Research & Innovation Officer (CRO), and Johann Haag, in the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Teaching and Organisation Development.
“Gabriela Fernandes and her tireless work have helped turn the St. Pölten UAS into one of the strongest research universities in Austria. I would like to express my gratitude for that and thank Gabriela for the great cooperation over the past years”, says Gernot Kohl.
Continuity in a Successful Phase
Milestones in the development of the UAS in the course of the joint function of Fernandes and Kohl as Executive Directors included, for example, the foundation of the start-up Creative Pre-Incubator and of a Josef Ressel Research Centre and the leading participation in the establishment of the world's largest blockchain competence centre (Austrian Blockchain Centre). The range of study programmes at the UAS has grown strongly over the last twelve years: the offered programmes have continually expanded and the number of students has more than doubled.
“The St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences is experiencing a very successful phase and another dream of further development will become reality with the creation of the Campus St. Pölten. We have contributed a lot to the development over the last twelve years and I therefore leave the university knowing that it will continue to forge ahead with great energy and keep up the high quality”, explains Fernandes.
“By appointing Hannes Raffaseder and Johann Haag, two long-time authorised signatories and former members of the Management Board, to the Executive Board together with Gernot Kohl, the UAS guarantees the necessary stability for the continuous development and successful design of the future of our University of Applied Sciences”, says Mayor Matthias Stadler. These include, the implementation of Strategy 2021 as well as the further expansion of study programmes and the research performance.
"The University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten is a model success project for the province of Lower Austria. The previous Executive Directors made a significant contribution to the positive development in recent years, which deserves a big thank you! Especially the area of placement initiatives, which strengthened the people’s awareness for science and research, was expanded further”, State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner outlines delightedly. “My best wishes to the new Executive Board! I am convinced that they will continue the path of innovation the St. Pölten UAS has taken.
The new Executive Board is responsible for the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences GmbH as well as for the wholly owned subsidiary of the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences Forschungs GmbH.
