This year's c-tv conference provided an overview of current developments in social TV on Instagram, WhatsApp and more, where television and social media merge.

On the 8th of May, the 10th c-tv Conference took place at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences. The topic this year was "High-Impact Content for Generation Z". The programme included international speakers who dealt with current formats and production methods for series. The event paid particular attention to a target group of young people known as Generation Z and their television and media consumption.

New storytelling for Social TV

This year's c-tv Conference provided an overview of recent developments in Social TV on Instagram, WhatsApp and Co., in which television and social media are merged. Sandra Lehner, a Swiss expert on digital and social-media formats, believes that Generation Z is changing everything we know as television and what television can be. According to Lehner, a study by the video-portal Hulu revealed that for 70 percent of Generation Z "watching TV" means streaming something online: no matter what content, on which portal, or on which device.

"With the conference, we provided a special insight into new production methods, innovative storytelling and distribution, as well as script development and production processes. The conference revealed how significantly TV production is changing as a result of the under-20s audience, the so-called Generation Z", said Rosa von Suess, organiser of the conference and Head of Educational Television c-tv at St. Pölten UAS.

According to Suess, the European-series market has become overall larger and more local. The quality standards have increased, and more and more offers are being delivered to an increasing variety destinations. Innovative storytelling, which until now has often been reserved for the experimentation and freedom of short digital content, will now grow up with Generation Z and become relevant for large productions in the future.

Ten years c-tv Conference

With this year's event, the c-tv Conference celebrated its tenth anniversary. The c-tv Conference is an event organised by the Department of Media and Digital Technologies as well as c-tv Educational Television at St. Pölten UAS.

„In the last ten years, our c-tv Conference has dealt with three important categories of moving-image production: new formats in film and television, media convergence through digitalisation and the manner of distribution", explained the Head of c-tv Rosa von Suess.
