Presentation of Research, Projects and New Initiatives
The St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences was represented at this year’s Forum Alpbach with numerous lectures and presentations.
Contributions to the Health and Technology Symposium
At the invitation of Philips Austria, authorised signatory of the St. Pölten UAS Hannes Raffaseder presented current projects researched at the CDHI Center for Digital Health Innovation of the St. Pölten UAS which encourage the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare at the panel discussion on “Adaptive Intelligence and Doctors – Friends or Enemies?” The innovative approaches in the research field of motor rehabilitation were received with great interest by the numerous experts who were present.
In the context of the technology symposium, the Lower Austrian Business Agency presented the new virtual house of digitisation. Thomas Moser, head of the research group Digital Technologies, presented relevant works and projects of the St. Pölten UAS in a session titled “Mixed Reality – Digitally Displaying the Real World”.
Initiative for Active Assisted Living
As scientific director of the new association “N'cyan – Innovation für Menschen” (Innovation for People), Hannes Raffaseder presented the goals of this cross-sector initiative. N'Cyan uses the advantages of digitisation to strengthen rural regions and their quality of life. As an innovative platform for the exploration of diverse interactions between digital technologies and a reflection on the roots, the association is initiating research and innovation projects, for now in East Tyrol and Lower Austria.
One focus is on Active Assisted Living. Age-friendly assistance systems for a healthy and independent life are designed to provide older people and caring relatives with the best possible support. The communication platform “Umbrello - Digitale.Dorf.Dienste”, which the St. Pölten UAS has been working on since 2013, are to be introduced as a marketable solution in the course of the next two years in collaboration with other partners. The St. Pölten UAS, the district office East Tyrol of the Austrian Red Cross and the association N'Cyan have signed an expression of interest at the Forum Alpbach.
Presentation of Student Projects
At the AAL Forum in the Philips Innovation Lab, the students Mariella Seel and Michael Andorfer presented student projects from the study programme Digital Healthcare. Students with a medical/health science or technical background develop ideas, prototypes and solutions for the digital healthcare sector, for example apps and application possibilities for virtual and augmented reality.
“The Forum Alpbach provided us with a good and important opportunity to discuss our ideas in the field of digitisation with numerous experts, to present current projects, to introduce new activities for the transfer of knowledge and to get in touch with potential partners for new projects”, says Raffaseder.
