Conventional travel guides generally aim to cover all the various aspects of what a destination has to offer, meaning that there is often little space left for quirky facts or inside tips. In contrast, the start-up insight.trips allows travellers to put together an individualised guide tailored to their specific interests, which it then prints and posts to them.

“With the help of insight.trips you can experience a city in your own personal way. You compile your ‘city.guide’ online to match your interests by selecting from a wide range of different categories, and can even design your own cover. It goes to press at the printers and arrives at your door in a few days. Every book is unique,” explains Anna Steinacher, who studies Media and Communications Consulting at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences and is responsible for marketing and design at insight.trips.

The fledgling company, which received development support from St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences’ Creative Pre-Incubator start-up programme during the 2016/17 academic year, has been offering personalised Vienna city guides since May. If the business model proves successful, the insight.trips team – which also comprises TU Wien student Patrick Kofler as well as developers Daniel Huber and Jan Heiss – plans to offer guides for other cities, with a focus on Germany.
