As part of the European Project Semester a unique project was implemented -the 3D visualization of the upcoming StadtRegioTram extension project.
For the first time students from four different countries realized an interdisciplinary project during their EPS in Austria. The team, consisting of six students and three supervisors, had to deal with many tasks, such as
- visual design,
- 3D animation,
- programming and
- augmented reality.
The team had the chance to visit Gmunden before they started to work on the project.
3 D visualization
After a lot of research work and the first visit in Gmunden, the project group started to work on their 3D project. The „European Project Semester“-Team included students from Poland, Spain, Turkey and Austria.
FH-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Thiemo Kastel (Department of Media and Digital Technologies) and Dipl.-Ing. Otfried Knoll (Initiator, Head of Department of Rail Technology and Mobility) supervised the project, in respect of the interdisciplinary character of the project.
“Since summer 2014, we cooperate with several project partners in Gmunden to realize the 3D visualization of the upcoming StadtRegioTram extension.”, says Thiemo Kastel. Otfried Knoll states: „The visualization of the Tram in the City Center of Gmunden is an added value for the information strategy of the project consortium.“
On January 27th, the EPS-Team had its final presentation in front of 200 interested Gmunden inhabitants.
„In Media Technology we have decided to perform an EPS every semester. EPS students work in international project teams and alongside they attend relevant lectures for the successful completion of the projects. So we are able to offer international and Austrian students to complete an entire semester in English in St. Pölten.”, says Alois Frotschnig, head of the department media and digital technologies at the UAS St. Pölten.
