A “Digital Twin” is a realistic digital representation of a physical asset, in this projects case a robot arm.

2nd Hand

Digital Twins can be used for different purposes, but in this project, the focus lies on use cases that are relevant in the Data Science domain.

In the “Smart Engineering Labor” at the FH St. Pölten, a physical robot arm is available, which we was used as the basis for creating a Digital Twin.
In this Project, the expectation was to create a Digital Twin of a Robot Arm, and demonstrate how the Digital Twin can be used for Data Science purposes.
The digital twin should at least have the following features:

  • A 3-D representation of the Asset, in a 3D-modelling tool we can still discuss
  • A real time representation/visualisation of the sensor data received from the Asset
  • A way to simulate the behaviour of the Asset (rotations, movements) based on the same inputs we could send to the real Asset
