Shaping the Future of European Higher Education

St. Pölten UAS CEO Hannes Raffaseder Joins Workshop with Rectors and High-Ranking EU Commission Representatives

The “European Universities Alliances Rectors’ Meeting” in Brussels is an occasion for rectors and representatives of the EU Commission to exchange experiences and views on current developments and, in doing so, further develop the European Universities Alliance.

UAS Chief Executive Director Hannes Raffaseder took this opportunity to engage in exchange with 43 rectors and EU Commissioner Maryia Gabriel. As head of the alliance E³UDRES², Raffaseder reported on the most important experiences, best practices, and challenges in the context of leading a European Universities Alliance. “The direct exchange with representatives of European higher education institutions and the Commission is an important source of inspiration for the concrete further development of the European higher education area and the active design of an extensive transformation process”, emphasises Raffaseder.

EU Commissioner Mariya Gabriel referred to the great significance of the European Universities initiative for the transformation of the European higher education, research, and innovation area and stressed the sustainable and profound impact of this initiative.

Universities of Applied Sciences in Europe

In his report, Raffaseder pointed out the special significance of universities of applied sciences for the establishment and strengthening of innovation in regional ecosystems. This relates particularly to the education of young talents, the creation of promoting framework conditions for the foundation of businesses, and the networking of relevant players and stakeholders in the regions.

The St. Pölten UAS as a European University

The “Engaged and Entrepreneurial European University as Driver for European Smart and Sustainable Regions” (E³UDRES²) brings together nine European higher education institutions in a long-term partnership. The objective is to support small and medium-sized European towns to become “smart and sustainable regions”: regions that are fit for the future, that offer their inhabitants the best possible quality of life, and that stand for a progressive European society.
