Art & Technology: Programme for Science Academy

The autumn of 2021 marks the beginning of another round of the Science Academy. In addition to the already established training programmes of Biotechnology, History & Present, Journalism & Media, Smart World, and Space, there are two more programmes on offer as of this year: Art & Technology, and Climate Change & Sustainability.

Insights into the Working World of Researchers

The Science Academy of the province of Lower Austria gives young people from 14 years of age the opportunity to familiarise themselves with scientific topics and represents a platform for personal further development and exchange.

“The Lower Austrian Science Academy provides impressive insights into the working world and the occupational profile of researchers and is therefore a unique chance to meet interesting and inspiring people in person”, explains Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Governor of Lower Austria.

Art and Science

Hannes Raffaseder, Chief Research and Innovation Officer of the St. Pölten UAS, will head the programme Art & Technology:

“Art and technology are often seen as opposite poles or entirely different worlds, yet they complement each other perfectly. It is the interplay between the two that can yield many particular forward-looking results. This is why artistic creativity and technological know-how are among the most important competencies in our digital society. We are very happy about this opportunity to contribute our wealth of experience gained in study programmes such as Media Technology and Creative Computing as well as from our research Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies to this new programme offered by the Science Academy. We are also planning an intensive collaboration with the Ars Electronica Linz.”

Science Academy since 2019

The St. Pölten UAS has been a part of the Science Academy ever since its beginning in 2019 and has contributed the Smart World programme which has the young participants address the possibilities of digitalisation and familiarise themselves with the necessary competencies in technical subareas such as human-machine interaction, IoT prototype construction, Virtual Reality, and 3D printing. So far, the St. Pölten UAS has also been involved in the programmes focusing on history and media.

There are two more webinar dates until the summer for the almost 100 participants of the first round of the Science Academy. After that, if the measures for containing the COVID-19 pandemic allow it, they will conclude their two-year training with a final summer week.
