The MIT Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) invited one of our researchers to present his current project: Researcher and UAS lecturer Robert Luh spoke to an international audience about the modelling and development of the IT security educational game "PenQuest".

The meta model – a byproduct of his dissertation – was further developed into a playable prototype in a joint effort of the Computer Science & Security and Media Technology departments (1st UAS Innovation Call).

Currently, a small team is working on an app implementation for use in computer science lectures.

Learning by Doing

PenQuest allows playing through complex cyber-attacks for educational and risk assessment purposes. Attackers and defenders compete against each other and try to outmaneuver their opponent in a wide variety of scenarios (data theft, sabotage, etc.).

The game has spawned an FWF project on AI-assisted optimization of defense strategies ("INODES"), which kicked off in late 2020.

About the MIT CSAIL Seminar Series

The CSAIL series presents and discusses current topics. Questions can be asked at any time during the one-hour talk. So there is more discussion than in normal talks. In addition, the CSAIL series is open to the public, which means that international audiences can also attend.

Topics from the following areas will be discussed:

  • Algorithms & Theory
  • AI & ML
  • Computational Biology
  • Security & Cryptography
  • Systems & Networking

Counter-invitation: MIT on the CD-MAKE

We hope to soon welcome Una-May O’Reilly and Erik Hemberg of MIT's ALFA research group to one of our own seminars. They are also scheduled to speak at the Machine Learning and Knowledge Extraction conference (CD-MAKE), which is co-organized by the UAS’ Institute of IT Security Research.
