This degree programme which is organised in blocks with remote learning components conveys strong communication, media and visualisation skills based on a sound foundation of economic and legal knowledge.
The focus is on a behaviour-oriented economic understanding. Business psychology, economic sociology, business and media ethics, and corporate social responsibility are central pillars of the study programme. The education is rounded off by the conveyance of journalistic skills as well as language and video training.
Students apply their knowledge in concrete projects with companies and editorial offices, deepen their expertise during visits to trade conferences, and establish contacts for their future professional careers thanks to the degree programme’s high practical relevance. Foreign language and trade events help the students to hone their English skills.
Individual Specialisation (2nd and 3rd Semesters)
Select two out of four specialisations for individual in-depth studies:
Communication with capital market stakeholders and the general public, rating agencies and analysts, private and institutional investors, news agencies and media, colleagues, third-party service providers, NGOs, etc.
Financial Reporting & Controlling
Communication with internal and external stakeholders with the objective of supporting the management in controlling matters
Data & Financial Journalism
Communication to the general public and specialist audiences though editorial offices and contemporary media channels
Communication to and with the public through corporate media with the core tasks of strategic communications planning, press work and blogger relations

Interdisciplinary Elective Module
The iLab programme allows students to participate in an interdisciplinary and intercultural project semester with the working language being English.

In projects and practice labs, the students team up with companies and agencies to work on concrete tasks from the practical world such as, e.g., the design of a (digital) business and sustainability report, the development of a (digital) communication strategy, the draft of an equity story, the creation of an IR website, the organisation of roadshows, etc.

Numerous specialist lectures are held in English. In addition, financial, legal and scientific English play an important role in the studies. Students acquire linguistic competence making it possible for them to read and understand complex financial, regulatory and scientific texts. They can create specialised texts for different media channels, conduct interviews, moderate meetings or structure and hold lectures. Within the scope of the study, international experts are also engaged as guest lecturers. In innovative learning environments the delivery of lectures, courses and other international university-sector activities from all over the world are made possible.
Involvement in Research Projects and the Economic and Financial Communications Symposium
Since 2015, St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences has been organising the Economic and Financial Communications Symposium. In the symposium, prominent experts illuminate topics that affect communications in the world of finance. During the symposium, students have the opportunity to present before an audience of renowned experts, outstanding research projects developed the research lab. In the framework of their studies, they can participate in ongoing research projects, become a member of the Financial Communication Working Group and take part in the publication and lecture activities of the course.
