Arlt Symposium 2022: Community Care

Specialist Conference for the Promotion of Resilience in Communities

Arlt Symposium 2022: Community Care

This year’s Arlt Symposium at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences will take place from 21 to 22 September 2022. The event will showcase strategic and planning approaches to community care as well as national and international examples from the areas of community work, acute social work, and acute community nursing. Moreover, the participants will discuss current concepts for community-based emergency paramedics.

Community work

The shortage of skilled social workers and healthcare specialists has caused many occupational groups and institutions to become active as patients often do not find adequate help fast enough. The social work concept of community work promotes teamwork among patients, experts, and institutions to ensure that affected persons receive immediate help from the right place.

But how can community support with citizen participation be organised? Can persons in search of assistance be guided to the right place? How can interprofessional collaboration be achieved that brings out the respective strengths of the different professional groups in healthcare and social work? And who is willing to offer practical support at night and on weekends in sparsely populated areas? The 10th Arlt Symposium will address these questions and highlight different approaches to community care.

“Questions of community care have shaped our research for years”, says Christoph Redelsteiner who is responsible for the Arlt Symposium’s content development. “We are pleased that we have won renowned international experts for the event who will tell us about their work.”

“It is becoming increasingly important that we broaden our minds when it comes to the provision of healthcare. The Arlt Symposium offers a great framework for exchange between the medical and social professions, thereby contributing to the optimisation of services. We, the Österreichische Gesundheitskasse, are happy to support this format”, emphasises Robert Leitner, Chairman of the ÖGK’s regional committee for Lower Austria.

Presentations, Workshops, and Discussions

On the first day, the Arlt Symposium will start out with keynotes such as the one held by UAS Professor Christoph Redelsteiner on the topic of “Caring for the Community” from the perspective of integrated care. Lectures will offer insights from practice, for example from acute social work: Katharina Adamek from Notruf NÖ and Andrea Tragschütz from the AKUTteam NÖ will talk about the profession of “acute community nurse” and about acute social work in Bruck an der Leitha.

In the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to personally address concrete questions and work on approaches to solutions. The symposium will be concluded by discussion rounds, for example based on international examples from Denmark, Germany, and Australia.
