True to the motto “setting new creative impulses”, the event Pixel, Bytes + Film goes Digital Makers Hub took place on 6 May 2022.

Antonia Rahofer from the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS), and Gabriele Permoser and Georg Vogt from the St. Pölten UAS welcomed the guests to the St. Pölten UAS. The audience made up of scholarship holders of the funding programme “Pixel, Bytes + Film”, researchers, and staff members of the St. Pölten UAS as well as interested persons from the business world, then followed the keynote of artist duo DEPART and took a dive into their audiovisual world.

Under the title “New Surrealities”, Leonhard Lass and Gregor Ladenhauf from DEPART presented their artistic career through a number of impressive audiovisual projects and art installations.

Lab Tour and Workshop

This was followed by a tour of the labs of the UAS where the participants had the opportunity to try on 3D glasses. The collected impressions and a look into the future were summarised and further developed in form of a World Café setting.

Apart from the discussion of current issues, necessary competencies, missing structures, and challenges of the digital art industry, there was room for networking and personal exchange.

The workshop “Pixel, Bytes + Film goes Digital Makers Hub” took place as a collaborative event of the Digital Makers Hub and the funding programme of the same name of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS). For more than 11 years, the programme has been funding film projects that artistically address digital image production and explore new strategies of storytelling and alternative formats of visual experiences. The event was also supported by the St. Pölten-based start-up initiative SMARTUP and is part of the framework programme of the BMKÖS funding programme “Pixel, Bytes + Film” overseen by sound:frame.

The Digital Makers Hub is funded by the Federal Ministry of Digital and Economic Affairs (BMDW) within the framework of the programme “Digital Innovation Hub in Austria”.
