St. Pölten UAS Board Elects New Chairperson

Alois Frotschnig to Head UAS Board

Yesterday Alois Frotschnig was elected the new Chairperson of the Board of the St. Pölten UAS for a term of three years. The central responsibility of the Board is to ensure the quality of teaching at the St. Pölten UAS.

Interdisciplinary activities

Alois Frotschnig, who has been active at the St. Pölten UAS for 17 years as Head of the Department of Digital Technologies and Academic Director of the bachelor degree programme Media Technology, was elected as new Chairperson by the UAS Board this Tuesday.

“I am very glad about the trust that the Board has put in me and I am looking forward to the exciting new task of further developing the teaching activities at the St. Pölten UAS together with the UAS Board and the Executive Board. This new term of office was preceded by an extraordinary summer semester under the impact of Covid-19, which is why we are facing concrete challenges for teaching, research, internationalisation, and the interdisciplinarity that is an integral part of our institution”, explains Alois Frotschnig.

Innovative Concepts for Teaching and Learning

Over the past 17 years, Mr Frotschnig developed the best possible framework conditions for intensive research and knowledge transfer, and always committed himself to the development of innovative teaching and learning concepts. The iLab, an innovative and interdisciplinary elective module, was awarded the Ars Docendi State Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

“On behalf of the Executive Board, I would like to congratulate the new Chairperson on his election. The close and constructive cooperation between the Chairperson, the UAS Board and the Executive Board is of the utmost importance for the successful further development of our university of applied sciences”, says St. Pölten UAS Executive Director Gernot Kohl.

Thanks to Monika Vyslouzil

“At the same time, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Monika Vyslouzil, the previous chairperson of the UAS Boad, for the wonderful collaboration over the past six years. In addition to her long years of experience in the implementation and evaluation of teaching and examination operations, Monika also added a strong socio-political commitment to our collaborative work. With the two annual topics of the UAS Board – sustainability and ethics – she succeeded in creating an awareness for these subject areas at the St. Pölten UAS and in initiating important measures”, emphasises Gernot Kohl.

“I very warmly congratulate Alois Frotschnig on his new position. The mixture of experienced and newly elected UAS Board members guarantees that projects launched in the past six years will be carried on, while bringing a breath of fresh air to the Board as well. It is with a good feeling that I can now turn to new challenges, and I would like to wish the St. Pölten UAS a successful further development”, states Monika Vyslouzil.

Monika Vyslouzil is the Deputy Head of the Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research and of the Department of Social Sciences, and has been the Chairperson of the UAS Board since 2014. She has been active at the St. Pölten UAS since 2010 and is going to leave the institution at the end of August 2020.
