This year, the St. Pölten UAS participated in the u:multirank for the first time – an academic ranking for the comprehensive evaluation of the quality of educational programmes offered by approximately 1,800 universities in 96 countries. The UAS achieved very good results in the areas of knowledge transfer and research as well as student mobility. The Department of Media and Economics received particular attention in the subject-related ranking and achieved excellent marks particularly for the practical relevance of its teaching activities, the international orientation of the master degree programmes, and the good external research revenues.

Major Strengths: Knowledge Transfer and Research

On the whole, the St. Pölten UAS achieved good to excellent results in virtually all assessment categories of the u:multirank. In an international comparison, the areas of knowledge transfer and research in particular were identified as the major strengths of the UAS: the further education sector and external research revenues as well as the scientific staff of the UAS were distinguished within the framework of the ranking. However, the St. Pölten UAS also achieved good marks in an international comparison of teaching and student mobility.

Excellent Practical Relevance and Internationality

In addition, a subject-related ranking for a certain scientific discipline determined by u:multirank is carried out every year – this year’s topic was economic sciences.

In addition to the quantitative survey, this ranking also includes a student survey. The St. Pölten UAS participated in the specialised ranking with two bachelor degree programmes and three master degree programmes of the Department of Media and Business.

The department achieved top results for the practical relevance of its teaching activities, the international orientation of its master degree programmes, and the external research revenues. Furthermore, the practical orientation in teaching was also identified as a particular strength of the department in a student survey. The international focus of the bachelor degree programmes, the achievement of bachelor degrees within the standard period of study and the spatial equipment earned the department above-average results as well.

“High Quality, even in an International Comparison”

“Our participation in the u:multirank is a conscious commitment to the international comparison with other universities. The results show that we are on the right track and that the high quality of our educational programmes is internationally competitive. It makes us particularly proud that our students themselves are very content with our educational offer. We can now use the ranking results for the continuous further development of our university of applied sciences and our study and further education programmes”, says Gernot Kohl, Executive Director of the St. Pölten UAS.

About the u:multirank Ranking

The u:multirank is an international academic ranking for the comprehensive assessment of the quality of university education offers which persons interested in applying for a study programme can use as a decision-making criterion. In the year 2019/20, more than 1,700 universities from 96 countries were evaluated from September 2019 to November 2019 on the basis of a quantitative survey covering five thematic dimensions. Furthermore, a student survey by means of a quantitative online survey was carried out within the framework of the subject-related ranking as well.
