The results of the U-Multirank university ranking for the year 2021 were published this week, and the St. Pölten UAS received good to very good ratings in all subject areas.

“When it comes to the areas ‘Teaching and Research’, ‘International Orientation’ and ‘Regional Engagement’, we have moved up one rank each, with the effect that we now boast excellent results in the respective highest evaluation ranks in four out of five areas”, says Katalin Szondy, Head of the UAS service unit Higher Education Development.

The purpose of the ranking is to evaluate higher education institutions in the following five performance dimensions: “Teaching and Learning”, “Research”, “Knowledge Transfer”, “International Orientation”, and “Regional Engagement”.

High Graduation Rate, Fast Completion, Good Gender Balance

In the topic area “Teaching and Learning”, the UAS achieved very good ratings for its bachelor and master degree programmes’ high graduation rate and completion within the standard period of study. At the same time, the UAS has a very good “Gender Balance” and offers very good and innovative career opportunities for women due to its practised gender equality and the sound education of its study programmes.

Many Postdoc Researchers, Strong Focus on Further Training

When it comes to research, the St. Pölten UAS was distinguished for the structure of its academic personnel (proportion of scientific staff with PhD) and the share of external research revenues. In the area of knowledge transfer, the UAS received excellent marks for its strong further education sector (revenues from further education programmes), among other things.

On the U-Multirank University Ranking

A total of almost 2,000 higher education institutions from 96 countries were examined for the 2021 ranking. 26 of these institutions were from Austria, among them ten universities of applied sciences and two private universities. For the St. Pölten UAS, the Department of Social Sciences and the degree programme Healthcare and Nursing participated in this year’s ranking by subject.

In addition to a comparison of universities on the whole in the above-mentioned five categories, U-Multirank also compiles a ranking by subject. Contrary to other rankings, U-Multirank does not distinguish a single best institution and does not create a ranking list, either. The performance of a university is displayed in the form of a type of traffic light system with individual assessments for the separate areas. U-Multirank is financed by the European Commission, the Bertelsmann Foundation, and Banco Santander.
