In the summer semester of 2023, incoming student numbers have almost doubled as compared to the years before the pandemic. Following a slight decrease due to travel restrictions in times of COVID-19, the St. Pölten UAS has once again seen record incoming student numbers for summer semester 2023. Out of a total of 59 exchange students, fourteen stay for the entire academic year – with half of them deciding to extend their semester in the months that followed their arrival back in September 2022.

Many of the exchange students will participate in the interdisciplinary semester programmes of the iLab and the EPS, while others signed up for classes of Digital Business & Innovation, Media & Digital Technologies, Computer Science & Security, Health Sciences, and Social Work. The Departments of Digital Business & Innovation and Computer Science & Security have accepted the largest share of exchange students. The UAS also offers six interns of its partner universities the opportunity to gain practical experience in Social Work, Healthcare and Nursing, and IT Security in Austria.

The incoming students come from 40 partner universities in 17 countries. Among other universities, E³UDRES² partners Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in Latvia and Saxion University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands have sent a total of three students to study a semester at the UAS.

First Incoming Students from Singapore, South Korea, and Ukraine

The St. Pölten UAS not only welcomes more international students; more and more often, they also come from far-away countries. In the academic year of 2022/23, the first students from Singapore and South Korea came for a semester exchange to St. Pölten.

This development can also be found in local media: Yi Qing Tang und Gracia Yap from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and Subeen Chae from Inha University in South Korea gave an interview to p3tv about their first impressions of St. Pölten. The video report also features Fabian Figueroa-Valle – an international degree-seeking student from Chile who pursues an entire master degree in “Rail Technology and Management of Rail Systems” at the St. Pölten UAS.

It is one year after the Russian invasion of Ukraine that the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences shows yet another act of solidarity with higher education in Ukraine: In the summer semester of 2023, the UAS awards six Erasmus+ scholarships to incoming students from Ukraine. For this purpose, new agreements with the following Ukrainian universities were concluded:

  • Chernihiv Polytechnic National University
  • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
  • Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University
  • National Aerospace University "Kharkiv Aviation Institute"
  • Odesa National University of Technology
  • V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University
