European Researchers’ Night at St. Pölten UAS

Researchers Present Innovative Projects

On 30 September, researchers presented their projects within the framework of the European Researchers’ Night at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences under the motto “Life is Science in a Digital World”.

The diverse programme was designed to entertain the visitors as well as invite them to participate. With free admission, numerous stations, workshops, and lectures offered an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the research departments. This year, we organised the programme together with the Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib).

A few impressions of the European Researchers’ Night 2022 can be found in our photo gallery.

Participation, Labs, Lectures

Presentations were held by

  • Anita Emmerstorfer-Augustin (acib) titled “What Makes Bioplastics so ‘Organic’?”,
  • by Michaela Moser (St. Pölten UAS) on “Making Better Decisions Together!",
  • by Niki Popper (TU Wien) on the topic “Mathematical Models. Or: Trying to Understand the World” as well as
  • by Renée Schroeder (formerly University of Vienna) on “Education and Natural Sciences” and
  • Katta Spiel (TU Vienna) on “What Counts? Minority Protection in Data Processing”.

Gender & Diversity Award of the St. Pölten UAS

At the event, the Gender & Diversity Award of the St. Pölten UAS was awarded for the first time. It honours scientific theses of students and graduates of the St. Pölten UAS with special reference to gender & diversity topics.

When the Norm and Privileges of the Hearing Affect University Access and Stay for People with Hearing Disabilities”.

Evening Programme

The evening programme invited visitors to test their knowledge in a science pub quiz and in the talk “Science & Cinema: Mongols, Monks, Minnesang”, Fritz Treiber from the University of Graz discussed the epoch of the Middle Ages with medievalist Johannes Giessauf, using selected film clips.

School Workshops

Within the framework of the European Researchers’ Night, school classes attended workshops in St. Pölten and Graz. The workshops will be offered continuously over the course of the current school year.

Research Festival Lower Austria

At the same time as the European Researchers’ Night, the Research Festival Lower Austria took place at the Palais Niederösterreich in Vienna. The St. Pölten UAS was also represented there – with a booth of the Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research dedicated to the topic of migration.
