In an increasingly digitalised world, it is important to provide low-threshold access to digital information and communication offers for everyone. The platform UMBRELLO developed at the St. Pölten UAS makes this possible for digital services in communities: it features information made available on community portals, health services, regional news, the opportunity of video-based communication with other people using the TV screen, and much more.

“UMBRELLO Digitale.Dorf.Dienste” is an easy-to-use platform for digital community services. In addition to age-appropriate communication, it presents information and (online) activities pertaining to community life, offers interactive applications of social assistance and remote health promotion, and combines them with regional news and infotainment.

Test in East Tyrol

Together with the association N’cyan and the Red Cross, the St. Pölten UAS is currently subjecting the senior citizen platform to a field test in East Tyrol. The test examines the usability of the platforms and serves as the basis for a deeper cooperation.

“The TV plays a central role for many senior citizens. In past tests, the system proved easy and useful. The few additionally necessary components such as a tablet and a TV box are made available within the framework of the test”, says Florian Zahorka, Junior Researcher at the Ilse Arlt Institute for Social Inclusion Research at the St. Pölten UAS.

White Paper on Project Research

The results from the research on the development of the platform were published in the form of a white paper and are available via the project website. The projects for the development of the platform were subsidised by the Federal Ministryfor Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology within the framework of the programme “benefit”.
