Cooperation with Siemens AG Austria

Training-Integrated Study Programme Smart Engineering

Siemens AG Austria and the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences have been cooperation partners for many years. In the dual study programme Smart Engineering, for example, the cooperation between the company and the UAS has been offering high school graduates a combination of working and studying. The application for the programme is currently open until 6 August 2025. Moreover, Siemens AG Austria supports the St. Pölten UAS through a room sponsoring contract.

The two partners, Siemens AG Austria and the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, jointly offer a training-integrated study programme that is unique in Austria. In parallel with the degree “Smart Engineering”, the students undergo an apprenticeship in automation technology at Siemens AG Austria. After six or seven semesters, the graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and the in-house training at Siemens AG Austria with a strong focus on digitalisation find that all doors are open to them. The training-integrated degree programme offers an ideal combination of theory and practice.

Designing Industry 5.0

During the apprenticeship, the focus is on the design, development, and implementation of technologies and processes within Industry 5.0.

In the digital age, traditional technical disciplines such as mechanical and electrical engineering are rethought and combined with modern know-how of human-machine interaction and industrial security.

Recently, Friedrich Beisser, Regional Head of Technical Training at Siemens AG Austria, and Thomas Felberbauer, Head of the  Degree Programme at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, met to discuss their ongoing collaboration.

“A very big thank you is due to the St. Pölten UAS for the long-standing partnership and mutual trust we enjoy in the dual study programme Smart Engineering. I’m particularly glad about the positive feedback from students throughout – they appreciate not only the hands-on training, but also the committed supervision on site”, states Beisser.

“I am delighted that with Siemens, we have an important cooperation partner and promoter on board for our dual study programme Smart Engineering. This support and collaboration significantly contribute to the programme’s success”, emphasises Felberbauer.

Through a labelled room sponsorship, Siemens AG Austria also supports the St. Pölten UAS beyond the scope of the existing cooperation.

Dual Study Programme: Studying and Working Combined

Apart from the training-integrated concept, the study programme Smart Engineering is mainly addressed to employees of companies who engage in processes of digitalisation and Industry 5.0 and are looking to gain further knowledge in this field with a practice-oriented academic degree. The participants study alongside their job, so the training takes place in two study locations: the UAS and the company.

10 Years of Dual Studies

The study programme Smart Engineering of Production Technologies and Processes – thus the full name of the programme – celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. In September 2015, the first students enrolled in the dual study programme.
