St. Pölten at the Global Nutrition Congress
Research from St. Pölten at the Nutrition Congress in Paris
Sabine Chmelar and Ursula Trübswasser from the Institute of Health Sciences at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences participated in the 23rd International Congress of Nutrition (IUNS-ICN) in Paris at the end of August. The conference, which focused on “Sustainable Food for Global Health" this year, is one of the world's largest events in the field of nutrition. Nearly 4,000 participants from 120 countries gathered at the Palais des Congrès, including leading nutrition experts and representatives of international organizations.
First Results from the NUMOQUA Project
Sabine Chmelar gave a short presentation on the initial results of the NUMOQUA project: an interprofessional dietetic and physiotherapy intervention supported patients with knee osteoarthritis to lose body weight while maintaining muscle mass. This could subsequently contribute to an improved disease progression. A detailed evaluation including the other outcome parameters of the NUMOQUA project will be conducted in the coming months.
Affordability of Healthy and Sustainable Diets
Ursula Trübswasser presented a study on the affordability of a healthy and sustainable diet as an e-poster. Prices of conventionally and organically produced foods were collected from different supermarkets and food coops in order to calculate the cost of a diet recommended by the Austrian food based dietary guidelines.
The study concluded that a healthy and sustainable diet is not affordable for people on a minimum wage, unless a limited selection of food items is purchased from discount supermarkets. The publication on this study is still in progress and will be submitted soon!
Exchange and International Networking
In addition to the scientific program, Sabine and Ursula took the opportunity to network with colleagues from all over the world. The conference provided professional input, but also inspirations for future collaborations and project ideas. Attending IUNS-ICN 2025 was not only a professional gain, but also confirmed the high quality of research at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences in the field of public health and nutrition.
