Bachelor programme Media Technology

The programme is divided into foundation and advanced stages. In the first two semesters, you study the content-related, design and technical aspects required for the subsequent specialisation options (Digital Media Computing or Audio and Video Technology) and electives, and acquire related professional know-how and skills. In semester 3, you choose an elective module to study alongside the Digital Media Computing or Audio and Video Technology specialisation. You have the opportunity to apply the expertise they have acquired at the practical stage of the course in semesters 5 and 6.

Essential media know-how

Foundation stage

BMT_Studieninhalte

You acquire insights into basic audio and video technology, as well as interactive media. Further you learn how to independently use audio-visual equipment and software for recording, editing and storage. You are also introduced to client-side programming, internet-application design and usability.

The basic media technology elements of the programme give you a grounding in IT and programming, network technology and mathematics, all of which are required for subsequent courses. You also acquire key, fundamental skills in the practical applications of media technologies, ranging from photography and basic print production to event and media technology (such as sound, lighting and projection).

Soft skills and English

In the interdisciplinary general courses, you acquire important social, personal and problem-solving skills, as well as you improve your general and subject-specific English proficiency. You develop a solid understanding of media law and the historical development of various media.

At the advanced stage of the programme, students select one of two specialisations.

Audio and Video Technology

You develop practical and theoretical media production expertise which encompasses technological and design aspects. The courses in this specialisation cover the entire media production chain from recording/filming, editing and processing to distribution, as well as studio and broadcasting technology.

Digital Media Computing

You learn how to develop and program web applications and other software products, with a focus on usability and design principles. Current industry issues and trends such as mobile web also form part of the course contents.

Projects give you the opportunity to apply their expertise and project management know-how in practice, as part of an interdisciplinary team.
