What is Industry 4.0?

Industry 4.0 describes the integration of digitalisation into company processes. The focus is on effectively connecting processes and systems through modern communication, information and production technologies.

The goal is to produce high-quality, tailor-made products and services by ensuring:

  • high productivity
  • low costs
  • facilitation for staff members
  • resource-efficient processes

It is important to note that today, industry 4.0. technologies are no longer “only” used in the industry. Thanks to the rapidly progressing development, they can also be purposefully and efficiently used for small and medium-sized enterprises.

What is Smart Engineering?

Smart Engineering refers to the use of cutting-edge technology to digitalise company processes. This is how it works: processes are first analysed for their potentials and subsequently optimised by using digital technologies, such as:

  • digital twins
  • cyber security
  • internet of things (IoT)
  • artificial intelligence
  • augmented reality and virtual reality

The objective is to develop digitalised processes that allow companies to become more competitive and reduce costs. It is essential for companies to optimise their processes sustainably, thereby actively counteracting shortage of skilled workers and steering their organisation in a future-proof direction.

Can I combine studying and working?

Yes, Smart Engineering is a dual study programme. We recommend students to look for an employment allowing them to work 20 to 40 hours a week.

What is the difference between part-time and dual?

Part time: You combine working and studying, regardless of whether your job is related to your studies.

Dual: Your studies and your job are closely related. Practical and training phases at your company are fixed components of the curriculum.

How do I find a partner company?

Depending on your current employment situation, there are two options for the dual bachelor degree programme Smart Engineering:

  1.  Your employer becomes an educational partner

Your employer is a company in the field of industry 4.0.? You can remain in your current employment and complete the practical training blocks at your company. If your employer is not yet a partner company of the St. Pölten UAS, the company can become an educational partner easily.

  1.  You become an employee of one of our educational partner companies

At the beginning of your studies, we support you in finding a suitable company from our company network. From the third semester onwards, you complete the practical training blocks at the new employer next to your studies.
